Mission.
HOME is dedicated to supporting our island’s aspiring physicians by providing meaningful experiences in the field of medicine. We connect students with local physicians and strive to provide mentorship and in-depth exposure to the practice of medicine in Guam. Our mission is to help create more “homegrown” physicians by guiding and supporting Guamanian students who are interested in becoming a physician and passionate about serving our island community.
A Message From our Executive Director
Guam is where my roots are, and has always been the place I call Home. The HOME program has been my passion since I moved back to Guam as a newly trained pediatrician. I still vividly remember what it was like to be a pre-med student; I was so curious and eager to learn about the medical field, but had no connections to the medical community and was unfamiliar with the lengthy, competitive process of applying to medical school. After moving off island to pursue my education and training in the States, I was able to fulfill my career dreams of becoming a doctor and returned home to serve our island. Having experienced firsthand the challenges that Guam pre-medical students must face and overcome when pursuing a medical career, I am committed to provide as much support and resources possible to pre-med students today through HOME.
Many of our HOME mentors are also homegrown, born and raised on Guam, and all of us share a passion for teaching and mentoring. Through HOME, it is my sincere hope that we can inspire, support, and train the next generation of medical professionals and ultimately help create more homegrown physicians to care for our island.
